You did not lose the Buy Box because of price alone

Price is the most visible Buy Box input and rarely the only one. Diagnose in the right order and you stop discounting to fix problems a discount cannot fix.

The reflex, when the Buy Box disappears, is to cut the price. Sometimes that works. Often it burns margin on a problem that had nothing to do with price — and once the price is down, getting it back up costs you sales velocity.

A better habit is to diagnose in order of how expensive the fix is, cheapest first.

Each of these can suppress the featured offer independently of your price:

  • Is the offer even eligible right now, or is the listing suppressed or inactive?
  • Did you go out of stock, or drop low enough that Amazon deprioritized the offer?
  • Did fulfillment change — an FBM offer competing where an FBA offer used to win?
  • Did account health or late-shipment metrics move against you?
  • Did a new seller join the listing, or did the manufacturer start selling directly?
  • Is Amazon itself now on the listing?
  • And only then: is your landed price, including shipping, genuinely out of line?

The trap of automated repricing

Repricers act on the last item in that list because it is the only one they can act on. If the real cause is a suppressed offer or a health metric, a repricer will chase the price down, find no reward, and chase it down again. You end up with the same lost Buy Box and a worse margin.

This is why our position is that a price change should be a decision you make with the full picture in front of you, not something software does to your catalog overnight.

Measure share, not moments

Buy Box ownership is not binary and it is not constant — it rotates across sellers over a day. A single screenshot proves nothing. What matters is the percentage of time your offer holds the featured position for a given SKU, and how that percentage trends after each change you make.

Track it per SKU, note the date of every change you make, and the pattern usually names its own cause within a week.

What we do about it

MySellerHQ pulls listing state, inventory position, fulfillment mix, and account health from Amazon read-only, so when the featured offer goes away you can see which of the cheap causes applies before touching price. It never reprices or edits a listing — writes of any kind stay off by design.
